Survivor Voices at the Centre
The Safeguarding Structures Programme was a key focus, with three survivor representatives now on the Programme Board, supported by a dedicated Survivor Participation Officer. Their role is to ensure diverse survivor voices are meaningfully included not to carry the burden alone.
The panel reaffirmed the importance of trauma-informed practice and called for survivor-led organisations to be part of shaping policy, not just consulted.
Building independent oversight
Members stressed the need for truly independent safeguarding scrutiny free from influence, with transparent appointments and statutory powers. The panel welcomed progress on a national complaints process and explored the idea of a Survivor Ombudsman to ensure fairness and credibility.
Strengthening representation and support
Plans to evolve NSP membership were reviewed, with strong support for increasing survivor representation and prioritising skills over denominational ties. The panel also backed the inclusion of safeguarding professionals from diocesan and parish levels, alongside advocacy groups.
New members will receive trauma-informed induction and peer support to ensure a safe and inclusive experience
